What is Airsoft?

Airsoft is a sport similar to Paintball, players eliminate opponents by hitting each other with spherical non-metallic pellets, called BB's, launched via replica firearms. Unlike Paintball, the projectiles used in Airsoft do not explode and leave bright coloured paint to identify a hit.

Gameplay varies in style and composition but often range from short-term skirmishes, organised scenarios, military simulations, or historical reenactments. Combat situations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve objectives set in each game. Participants typically emulate the tactical equipment and accessories used by modern military and police organisations.

Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Field

CQB is a term usually used for close range combat in urban areas or close quarters like in a room or building. This is a fast paced game style where players battle from room to room. Game scenarios do not differ greatly from those used on an outdoor field, but the close range of engagement adds an extra dimension. TAR have occasional CQB games at a site in Patea.

WHY DO WE PLAY AIRSOFT?

Article By Jonno Robinson

I was introduced to Airsoft by my brother David (thanks bro). Now whilst I always liked a game of paintball I knew from the first game that Airsoft was on a whole other level, and what made it even better was I got to do this with my bro.

Like most people at their first game, I was blown away by it all, the guns were badass, the gear was epic, everyone had different set ups, from every military era to every countries camo patterns, Airsoft was by far at the pointy end of recreational skirmishing sports. It was hard to soak it in over one day. I got to have a blast with my friends and family, and couldn’t imagine doing anything else, on the drive home all I thought about was what gun, what camo, what optics? The list was endless, and most of all, when was the next game?

That was the day that my love of Airsoft begun.

I think a moment to remember why we are here will go a long way towards the future success of Airsoft as a whole.

“Alone Airsoft will not survive, but together we can make it better then it was yesterday. Why do we do this? We do this for ALL like-minded gunslingers.”
