Who We Are

about us

Welcome to Taranaki Airsoft Rangers

Taranaki Airsoft Rangers (TAR) is an Airsoft sports club. The club was established in 2009 and has grown to over 100 members, with a regular turnout of 20 - 30 players per game. Our not for profit club is made up of like-minded members from all walks of life, we range in age from mid-teens to the mid-forties. We game on Saturdays fortnightly, when weather permits, at an outdoor 'battlefield' covering about 12 hectares on a privately owned farm in Midhirst, Taranaki. Our club is associated with Airsoft New Zealand.

what is airsoft?

Airsoft Is An Active Sport And Not For The Faint of Heart!

Airsoft weapons are often replicas of real firearms, but they shoot small plastic 6mm BBs. Airsoft is similar to first-person shooting video games, and it allows experiencing realistic battle and tactical scenario gameplay.

My favourite airsoft gun is my GBB scar-L but I have been known to like the odd AEG.

I like to play all forms of airsoft in all forms of arenas but really enjoy tactical squad based missions. In the club's future I would like to see members grow into long term veterans of the club and build some solid friendships.

When I’m not at the field I’m hanging out with the family, building LEGO with my 2 boys or building CQB villages.

My favourite airsoft gun is the M4 Polarstar.

I prefer playing in dense bush or playing objective driven games as a small tactical squad.

I'd like to see more people getting involved in our club in the future, helping out at game days and working bees.

When I'm not playing airsoft I'm riding/racing/building/fixing motorcycles.

My favourite Airsoft gun is my MK46 LMG.

I like playing CQB and open field games as they are very different from each other so are both fun for very different reasons. I would like to see more built up bases on the field with each one being unique. I would love something like a light aircraft or helicopter airframe as a permanent prop on the field too. When I’m not playing airsoft, I’m scuba diving, flying large scale RC Warbirds, and hanging out with my young daughter and my wife.

My favourite airsoft gun is the M4 Honey Badger.

I'd like to see more social events like BBQs in the future, and people just hanging out at the end of games getting to know each other better. TAR started as a social club and I want to always remember our roots.

When I'm not playing airsoft, I'm teaching at school, trying to piece together all the parts of custom airsoft guns, and riding my Buell out in the countryside to get a break from town!
