Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I have to be to play with TAR?
You need to be at least 12 years old to play – please read the rules on this. Also if you are less than 18 years old and don’t have a Firearms License you are not allowed to use a gun above 1.13 joules. If you are bringing your own gun and don’t know the joules we can test it for you.
Do I have to have my own airsoft gun to play?
No. We have a number of M4 full and semi-automatic airsoft rifles you can rent for $10 each per day. We provide the batteries and mags, you buy the ammo. We also have eye protection and face masks that you can use for free if you don’t have your own.
Can I bring friends to play at a TAR Club game?
Absolutely! We love it when our members introduce the sport to their friends.
Just make sure they read the rules before playing so they know what to expect. They will also have to fill in an emergency contact form at every game they play until they become a member.
How often does TAR play?
Our games are run every two weeks on Saturdays from 10am – 4pm and we post them as events on our Events page.
What equipment should I bring?
Appropriate clothing for the weather. Camo if you have it. Boots (not sneakers). A water bottle and food/snacks.
A lot of our regular players have lots of camo, equipment, and guns – don’t be intimidated by this. Really you can wear anything you like and still have fun! You can rent a gun from us if you don’t have one and we will provide eye and face protection for no charge.
If you’re bringing your own eye protection it must be NZ Safety rated.
How much does it cost to play?
• $15 per game day ($10 for club members – you must show your club card)
• $10 for students per game day ( $5 for student club members) – you MUST have student ID for this discount if you look over 16
• $10 Airsoft M4 rifle rental for the day
• $20 for a bag of 4000 BB’s
How much does TAR membership cost?

The Basics
Safety eye wear is the highest priority purchase when buying your Airsoft equipment. Approved eye protection is required at all times when entering the game play areas.
The power of an Airsoft gun is measured as the velocity of the BB exiting the barrel in feet per second. If you’re new to Airsoft, you won’t be allowed to use a gun with a joule rating of more than 1.13.
