Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to play with TAR?

You need to be at least 12 years old to play – please read the rules on this. Also if you are less than 18 years old and don’t have a Firearms License you are not allowed to use a gun above 1.13 joules.

Do I have to have my own airsoft gun to play?

No. We have a number of M4 full and semi-automatic airsoft rifles you can rent for $10 each per day. We provide the batteries and mags, you buy the ammo. We also have eye protection and face masks that you can use for free if you don’t have your own.

Can I bring my own airsoft gun if I have one?

Yes, as long as you have read and understand our rules around the joules (power) and the different classes (assault, DMR, LMG, sniper). For players new to our field we have a probationary period, please read the rules on this.
You should also know the laws around owning and transporting an airsoft rifle.
If you are bringing your own gun and don’t know the joules we can test it for you.

Can I bring friends to play at a TAR Club game?

Absolutely! We love it when our members introduce the sport to their friends.

Just make sure they read the rules before playing so they know what to expect. They will also have to fill in an emergency contact form at every game they play until they become a member.

Can I book a birthday event with TAR?

No, sorry. TAR is a club which is run by its members and we only organise our regular club events which you can find here.

If it’s your birthday and you want to come play with us, you are more than welcome, as long as you follow our rules and reserve yourself a club gun if you don’t have your own.

How often does TAR play?

Our games are run every two weeks on Saturdays from 10am – 4pm all year long (2pm – 7pm in summer) and we post them as events on our Events page.

Does TAR play in all weather? Is there an indoor arena?

We play on privately owned farmland in Midhirst, all outdoors. Because of this, we only play when weather permits. Final game calls are made by 8am the day of an event and if we need to call a game off, we will post this on the event itself and our Facebook page.

What equipment should I bring?

Appropriate clothing for the weather. Camo if you have it. Boots (not sneakers). A water bottle and food/snacks.

A lot of our regular players have lots of camo, equipment, and guns – don’t be intimidated by this. Really you can wear anything you like and still have fun! You can rent a gun from us if you don’t have one and we will provide eye and face protection for no charge.

If you’re bringing your own eye protection it must be NZ Safety rated.

How much does it cost to play?

• $15 per game day ($10 for club members – you must show your club card)
• $10 for students per game day ( $5 for student club members) – you MUST have student ID for this discount if you look over 16
• $10 Airsoft M4 rifle rental for the day
• $25 for a bag of 4000 BB’s

Do I have to be a member to play at an event?

You don’t have to join TAR to play, but our regular game days are cheaper for our members.

How much does TAR membership cost?

Membership costs $25 per year, renewable annually on the date you originally sign up on. When you sign up you get a TAR patch for free. After paying your membership fee, when you log in to this website you will see your membership card which you can use to get discounts at game days. This card is not sent to you but you can print it off or screenshot it yourself. You can sign up here for membership.

Taranaki Airsoft Rangers Rules and Safety

Make sure you read our club rules before you attend a game. You wouldn’t turn up to a new sport and expect to play it without knowing the rules, and airsoft is no different.

If you have any questions regarding any of the rules, please feel free to contact us.
